50 Years of activity – and nowadays in Top 2% of World Researchers
28.04.2021

April 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the start of his career at the Institute of Power Engineering of Moldova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Main Researcher Valentin Igor Oleschuk. In particular, the corresponding old entry in his work book reads: "Academy of Sciences of the MSSR - Enlisted as an engineer in the Department of Energy Cybernetics (since 1990 - Institute of Power Engineering), Order No. 12 dated April 19, 1971". Since then a lot of “water has flowed under the bridge”. V. Oleschuk successfully defended his PHD (in 1980) and Dr.of Sciences (in 1999) dissertations in the field of power electronics. V. Oleschuk has gained wide international recognition in this area, since the mid-90s of the last century he has been the Leader Researcher and Manager (from the Moldovan side) of 15 large international projects, carrying out and leading joint research projects with a number of leading foreign universities.

Also, this anniversary coincided with the fact that V. Oleschuk was recently included in the top 2% of researchers in the world in his field (Electrical Engineering) according to the results of a comparative analysis of the productivity of scientists around the world in all scientific areas, carried out in 2020 year at Stanford University (USA) (the corresponding part of the pivot table with the names of researchers in the top 2% in each area is presented below).

Thus, V. Oleschuk is one of the four Moldovan researchers included in the list of the top 2% of scientists in the world. It should be specially noted that as the basic criteria for the mentioned integral comparative assessment of the contribution of each of the researchers, many different indicators were used, such as the number of publications without co-authors, the number of publications as the first author, the total number of publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, the number of citations of these publications ( for each group of publications separately) with different weights for citation and self-citation, etc., etc.

We wish to Valentin Igor Oleschuk health and further success in his scientific and technical activities!
